“Blow” was suggested by a former team member, and while it certainly raised a few eyebrows (and sparked more than a few jokes), we loved its cheeky personality. To avoid any confusion about our line of work, “It’s a Hair Thing” was added as a friendly reminder that we style hair—not run a brothel!

On November 17, 2003, Steve La Bella brought Blow – It’s a Hair Thing to life. As the heart and soul of the brand, Steve built a salon culture that was equal parts creativity, passion, and exceptional client care. Starting from the Melbourne Street days, his vision quickly outgrew its original home, leading to a move and rebrand in the heart of the city on Charles Street.

In 2013, Blow found a new home in Adelaide’s exciting new shopping destination, Rundle Place. Following a challenging battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma the year before, Steve recognised the value of bringing in fresh perspectives to help shape the future of the business. Enter Hung Tran, whose energy, vision, and drive became instrumental in the salon’s next chapter.

The partnership proved to be a perfect match. Within just two years, the success of the business led to the opening of a second salon in Firle on May 1, 2015, expanding the Blow family and bringing our signature style to even more clients.

In 2023, our world changed with the sudden passing of Steve La Bella. His loss left a space in our hearts that can never truly be filled. Steve’s influence, passion, and legacy remain woven into everything we do, and his spirit continues to inspire our team every day.

Today, a new chapter is being written. Under Hung’s leadership, Blow – It’s a Hair Thing continues to evolve, with the opening of our newest location in Kilkenny in June 2025. With over 20 years of industry experience, Hung brings a commitment to excellence, innovation, and creating exceptional salon experiences.

Our mission is simple: to become the go-to salon in Adelaide’s western suburbs. And we’re not asking if it will happen—we’re focused on when. The story of Blow is still being written, and we can’t wait for you to be part of it.

The past year has been huge for our team. We've been busy backstage at fashion shows, styling for photoshoots, collaborating with modelling agencies, and giving our team incredible opportunities to grow their skills in session styling and creative work. We've also proudly supported local charities because being successful isn't just about what happens inside the salon—it's about giving back to the community that supports us.

Our trophy shelf is pretty stacked too! From taking out AHIA SA Salon Business of the Year to being recognised as National Finalists in the AHFA Salon of the Year and Schwarzkopf Awards, we're incredibly proud of what we've achieved together.
