Our Story

“Blow” was originally suggested by a former team member—and while it definitely raised a few eyebrows (and a few laughs), we loved its cheeky energy. To avoid any confusion about what we do, “It’s a Hair Thing” was added as a reminder that we do hair… and we do it seriously well.

Blow – It’s a Hair Thing was brought to life on 17 November 2003 by Steve La Bella, whose vision, creativity, and passion for exceptional hairdressing shaped the foundation of our salon culture. From the early days on Melbourne Street through to Charles Street in the heart of the city, Blow quickly grew into something bigger than a salon—it became a brand built on creativity, connection, and care.

In 2013, the business moved to Rundle Place, marking an exciting new chapter. After facing a challenging battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma the year prior, Steve made the decision to bring in fresh leadership to help guide the next stage of growth. That’s when Hung Tran joined the journey, bringing energy, ambition, and a shared commitment to excellence. Together, they helped expand Blow into a second location in Firle in 2015, growing the team and the community around it.

In 2023, we experienced the heart breaking loss of Steve La Bella. His influence, kindness, and vision remain deeply embedded in everything we do, and his legacy continues to guide our culture and our standards every day. Today, under Hung’s leadership, Blow continues to evolve—most recently with the opening of our Kilkenny salon in 2025. After more than 20 years in the industry, Hung’s focus remains clear: growth, innovation, and delivering exceptional salon experiences across Adelaide.

Our mission is simple: to become the go-to salon in Adelaide’s western suburbs. We’re not asking if it will happen—we’re focused on when.

At Blow, we’re a team of five stylists across every stage of the hairdressing journey—from apprentice to salon director. What connects us isn’t just hair, but a shared drive to learn, grow, and create work we’re proud of.
