We work hard for every achievement we earn and it is that work ethic that drives and defines us, it is what propels us to push the creative boundaries and deliver the best salon experience.
For the past year, we have continued to set the standard in South Australia, Adelaide for outstanding business excellence. We have been involved in many industry events, fashion shows and photoshoots. We have made alliances with modelling agencies, which have enabled all of our team to gain valuable session styling and photoshoot experience. We have donated our time and money to various charities, to show that a component of building a successful business is about giving back to the community that sustains us.
We have had success in local and every major national competition from winning AHIA SA Salon Business of The Year to being announced as an National Finalist for AHFA Salon of The Year and Schwarzkopf Awards. Our team continues to set the standards of excellence in service, achieving near perfect scores from our mystery shoppers supplied by the AHC as a part of being a Gold accredited salon. And finally, education and training remain at our highest priority, to continually stay on trend and refine our skills we provide training opportunities and courses every week for our teams personal development.

The name Blow- It's a Hair Thing was derived from the word Blow, a suggestion from a former team member. As provocative as it may sound, and many jokes later… It was suggested that It’s a Hair Thing was added to give context that we were indeed not a brothel. The business was first established on the 17th of November 2003 by Steve La Bella, whom was the heart and soul of the brand. From the La Bella days of Melbourne Street, it was only a matter of time to expand his enterprise and rebrand into the heart of the city, Charles Street.
In 2013, the salon moved into Adelaide’s newest shopping precinct, Rundle Place. With major health battles with non-Hodgkin lymphoma a year earlier, it was evidence that Steve La Bella needed partners with a younger perspective, and fresh ideas in evolving the business. Dion La Bella and Hung Tran became an essential core to progressing the business further. Within less than two years, the success of the partnership was evident as it led to the opening of the second location on the 1st of May 2015-2020, Firle.
That all changed with the sudden passing of our founder, Steve La Bella in 2023 that left an emptiness in our hearts that no void could fill. It caused ripple within the business in ways we could not describe. The memories of Dion’s late father and pressure of continuing the legacy was too much to bear and it was decided that the partnership would part ways. As one door closes, a new chapter begins…
A new era as Hung leads Blow It’s a Hair Thing and the team into a new direction moving out west into the newest location Kilkenny, opened in June of 2025. With 20 years experience, his ideals and standards will take the salon into new heights with one goal in mind. Blow It’s a Hair Thing will be the best salon in the western suburb, and it’s not a matter of if, but when.
Our vision at Blow it’s a Hair Thing is to aim high, to have a team that are professional, creative, innovative, highly skilled, dedicated and are willing to share their passion and knowledge. To be recognised for exceeding our clients expectations with outstanding customer service. Our upbeat and happy environment encourages personal growth for our staff and keeps us ahead in the market place.
The salon consists of five dedicated stylists ranging from a first year apprentice to the director. With a broad spectrum of clientele, and a vast array of requests. One thing remains a constant, the importance of colour. Blow it’s a Hair Thing lives by the philosophy that it is imperative that the whole team keep ahead of industry trends as the salon strives to position itself as an industry innovator, specializing in the deliverance of high fashion styles, cutting services and creative colour work.
Our philosophies are based around the guidance and support provided to each team member to deliver a level of service that exceeds the experience of a normal salon. The team's addiction and motivation to be industry leaders, creates a higher standard of work. The ability to enter local and national competitions are a type of medium to push boundaries, encourage personal expression, and create an immense sense of energy and hype with the salon and the salon team. From these experiences, our teams sense of awareness, ability and self-confidence have been raised to allow us to consistently exceed the expectation of our clients with all of our extensive salon services.
